The Australian based team of Bob and David Trask finished off the UIM World F1 series with a stunning result setting up the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team for a serious tilt at the world championship in 2007. Bob Trask finished the race in sixth place, David Trask was fifth.
Coming off a disappointing round the previous weekend at Abu Dhabi, the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team went into the Sharjah GP keen to finish off their best ever season with another solid result.
The F1 race weekend began superbly with David Trask qualifying in 4th position and Bob Trask in 8th. This was the very first time that both drivers in the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team qualified in the top ten.
“To have any chance of success at this level of motor sport you need to be in the top ten on the start grid,” Bob Trask said. “With 25 boats in the field you have to start near the front to have any chance to challenge for the lead.”
The F1 GP at Sharjah in the UAE turned out to be a torrid affair. With a world title on the line, the lead drivers were taking a harder, more aggressive line than normal.
“This was a brutal race,” Bob Trask said.
Enjoying a strong engine and prop set up, Bob and David Trask raced with the pack at the front of the field, side by side for most of the 50 laps. As an indication of how competitive the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team is out on the water, both Bob Trask and David Trask recorded their fastest lap times of the race on the same lap, lap number 48.
“We were going for it,” Bob Trask said. “At this late stage of the race Dave and I were as determined as ever to beat each other. In fact we were going so hard that he ran into each other and bashed the boats up a bit.”
At the end of the Sharjah F1 GP, the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team had achieved an exceptional result. Bob Trask came across the line in sixth position with David in 5th.
“The Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team has enjoyed an outstanding 2006 series,” Bob Trask said.
On the 2006 Drivers Championship pointscore, David Trask finished in fifth position and Bob Trask was seventh. On the Teams Points Table the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team finished third, an exceptional effort given that the first team was that of 2006 World Champion, Scott Gillman while 2005 World Champion Guido Cappellini was second.
“The Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team has come a long way in 2006,” Bob Trask said. “There are a lot of race teams taking us very seriously now. We are consistently qualifying in the top ten, finishing in the top ten and posting very quick lap times.
“Our Australian designed and built GTR Race Boat hulls are clearly of world standard, our race engines are as good as the best and our driving is now right up there too.”
“The great challenge that lies ahead is to lift the whole performance another notch and get onto the podium consistently in 2007. I’m sure that we have the team to do it and we look forward to the Trask Development Corporation / Sea Quest Boats team having an even better year in 2007 on the UIM World F1 series.”
